Painted Gourds and Pumpkins

Post by Chibi Rachy »

So being back home (not at college), means I have plenty of space for what I love to do in the fall. I started doing this in college, but now I'm really into it. I bought some gourds at the flea market during a festival a couple weeks ago. I've been busy painting when I have a chance, and thought I'd show off some of my creations. I'm in no way any more than an amateur at painting, but I have a lot of fun with it. Some of these were started with basic shape stencils and others (the Mario ones, penguin, and the mouth of the blue one) were done freehand.

I'm posting some gourds right now, but I've got some pumpkins to do next. Let me know what you think.

"Evil Spirit" This was the first one I did..gave him to my grandma ;)

"Silly Nerd" I was having fun seeing what stencils I could combine. I found a stencil that looked like a pair of glasses, but I'm not sure if that was what it was supposed to be for or not.

"Boo Buddy" Turned out okay I think. I would have loved to have found more gourds in a similar shape to do other boo buddy faces too.

"Goomba" Goomba is a work in progress. I still need to do the bottom of his body and the shoes, but all I have is play dough because no store around here sells modeling clay and I'm not driving 45 min just to get some.

"One Eyed, One Stemmed, Smilin' Blue People Eater"
Corny but he was so cute. And it's such a small gourd.

"Penguin" Isn't he cute? He really turned out well. My model was the Linux penguin because I needed an idea of a cartoon-y penguin to go from.

Too cute! And you always say you have no artistic talent :p
"I hope you know what you're doing, Rainbow."
"You still doubt me, after all this time?"
"I don't doubt," Krys said as he paused at the door. "I worry."

XD That's because I have a hard time drawing. Still, I really enjoy these projects and put a lot of work into them. I can't decide if the penguin or the blue guy is my favorite.

Thanks guys :) They were a lot of fun to do. I will work on some pumpkins this weekend if I'm not overwhelmed with prep work.

There are two things that go into consideration when I paint a gourd or pumpkin. One is the shape of the pumpkin/gourd and another is my artistic abilities. Lurky and Twink are out of my zone and I'd first have to find and buy a pumpkin that'd be suitable.
