Have You Ever Experienced An Earthquake?

Post by Charles Xavier »

Don't you believe it? I know Japan's prone to earthquakes, but a couple days ago Tokyo had a minor earthquake, and then following today this morning, we had a huge one so severe I nearly fell off my bed (still half-asleep though).

Just wondering, has anyone here every experienced earthquakes before? Share it with us, please.

I hope everyone is ok there! Was it a very strong earthquake or not? I never experienced an earthquake myself but members of my family have so I heard how it feels! It is interesting on how in the space of few month from each other earthquakes are taking place all around the world!

I lived in Japan for three years as well, so yes, I've experienced earthquakes xD I got so used to the minor ones that I'd sleep right through them, even at five years old. When we moved back to the States in '94, we left a day before a major quake hit Aomori. We were on the phone with friends still living there when it hit, and we could hear their house shaking and things falling over.

Apparently there was one in Maryland while I was in high school, so everyone says, but I didn't notice it. Either they were exaggerating, or I'm still dull to them thanks to Japan xD

I've also experienced a flood, major blizzards - getting snowed in for a week - a two-week-long power outtage, and a fair share of hail storms.
"I hope you know what you're doing, Rainbow."
"You still doubt me, after all this time?"
"I don't doubt," Krys said as he paused at the door. "I worry."

Yup, there was one here in Birmingham last year:

I was in my room sitting in front of my computer when all of a sudden the furniture started shaking and the house walls slightly wobbled like jelly. Even before I realized that I just went through my life's very 1st earthquake, the whole thing was over. It was only when I found the BBC News article online 2 hours later that I knew it indeed was an earthquake and not my imagination .. it had stretched all across england.

I remember hearing about that and thinking how strange it was that it had occurred in England.

I can't really remember any other major storms of any sort that I was around for. There was the flood of '85 in West Virginia, which most everyone knows when they see the picture of the dead cow stuck in the bridge. I remember the one blizzard in the 90's we had here... I can't remember the year, but I remember it because the state was put under an emergency status and all the roads were closed. Only the state road trucks were allowed to be out. My siblings and I played in the middle of Route 50 (that road that runs east to west coast in the States) that runs right by our house. Such fun to make snow angels in the passing lane!

I think my Dad said he experienced one before I was born. (Don't quote me on that if I'm wrong)
