Planet Rainbowland

Post by Robert Teague »

The creators of the new RB know something about astronomy, and I'm impressed.

There are 10 rings around Rainbowland, tilted at 45° from the ecliptic so the shadows from them never appear on the surface of the planet. This is good for plants, but makes the rings hard to observe from the surface.

The rings are colored from red (closest to the planet) to violet (farthest). While the Color Signal has violet next to red, the rings are correct. This may indicate the difference between a natural rainbow and a magic-generated one.

There is a gap between the green and blue rings where two moons orbit, two more moons inside the red ring, and one outside the violet. These act like Saturn's shepherd moons that keep the rings intact.

From the position of the Color Signal, the Castle is at ~54° N, far enough to the north for snow in the winter.

Thank you, Katy!

I would try some cartography, but the surface details are too fuzzy here.

This Rainbowland has a definite geography, and it's roughly the same as the old series, as the Color Caves, Castle, Sprite Village, and the Pits all have the same position relative to each other.

However there is a new factor: in Ep 2, as the Princess is flying near the Castle, one can see the ocean beyond the hills behind her. The river flows in that direction as well.
