Princess Jasmine

Post by FanChan »

I think it's a crime against humanity that Disney doesn't make more merchandise for the Alladin series. Jasmine's even one of the Disney Princesses, but she's #6 on the list, so when the princesses are getting their own individual things, Jasmine, 99.9% of the time, doesn't get anything. Even when there's a group, often times there are only five slots, and since she's #6, nothing. Arg. Basically, her merchandise is summed up in pins, horrific dolls, and stickers. I've got plenty of Jasmine toys and merch from right when each movie came out, and that one time they pulled the movies out of the vault. But there's nothing else.

My theory about the lack of Jasmine merch, minus the fact that she's #6 on the list (a list that, I believe, is chronological) is because she's not the star of her own series/movie. Which is lame. They're Disney, they could solve that problem. She's my favorite princess. She took care of herself, was gutsy, and was a great role-model - minus the stereotypical belly-dancer outfits. Ugh.

It's gotten to the point where I'm working on an angry letter, in the form of a comic involving Jasmine herself chastising Disney for giving her the short end of the stick. I've been hearing a lot of the same from the Mulan fans, so she might make a cameo appearance, as well.

Does anyone else have a favorite famous Disney movie that has next to no merchandise for it?

Where do you find the list of princesses? I'd be interested to see it.

And I'm not sure if it'd be considered a famous one, but I'd love to see more Jack-Jack merch from the Incredibles movie. That's one of my favorites and the only Jack-Jack things I have are the small press button plush I found at an Epcot store back on my senior trip in '05 and a bubble blower that my mom thought I'd love. But I'd love a bigger plush of him :) He and Stitch are my favorite disney characters

I found my initial information on wikipedia, and from the looks of their list, it is in fact chronological. From what I can tell, the three popular princesses are Belle(Beauty and the Beast), Aurora(Sleeping Beauty) and Cinderella. If there are only three princesses, it's these three that you see. If there's afourth, Snow White gets tucked in, so admittedly she's not exactly first on the list.

Now, what if there are only five princesses to be shown? You would think that the human princess would get first dibs. But no. The fifth princess we see is Ariel. Okay, so most of the time they use her human form from the end of the movie, but rarely. Admittedly, Ariel doesn't have a whole lot of Disney Princess stuff, either, but she does show up a lot more than Jasmine (who shows up a lot more than Mulan, who shows up a lot more than Poccohontas). Is it just me, or does this sound kinda racist? Okay, I won't play the race card.

So, only when there's room for more than five princesses does Jasmine pop up in the group shots. But what about the individual things? A lot of times you can get DP stuff that is for just one of the princesses - namely Belle, Aurora, and Cinderella. For example, this Christmas they had a ton of ornaments and globes and toys labeled from the DP franchise, each featuring only one princess, but only for those three. Who even cares about Aurora? All she did was sleep. Snow White didn't do much of anything, either. I'm fine with Cinderella, she held her own.

Ah well...

Well, if I go from that list, my favorite has always been Mulan cause I always like a girl who can hold her own, you know? I dunno. I'm not really the girly type so I always identified more with Mulan than any of them.

Thank goodness for Kingdom Hearts and Japan's superior toy-making skills. Only in Japan could you find a chibi Rajah.

I really hope I win this when the time comes *-*
