I purchased this doll for fifty cents at a flea market in the early 90s. She was purchases without a dress, or anything else. Now I'm no doll expert, but she does not appear to have been altered in any way (she has a bit of damage from when my cat tried to play with her).
I have never seen another Rainbow Brite doll with this particular dual-colored body. Does anyone have information about this particular toy? Below are some links to photos of the doll:

I also have a question about a pink Nightgown set for the largest size Rainbow Brite dolls. Was this set sold separately from the dolls? I seem to have some pieces, but I'd like to know if I'm missing anything...

That's the "red bottom" variant. It's described here:

I've got an 18" like it.
As for the sleeper set, there's a facemask and I believe a sleeping bag that goes with it. I'll pull out my boxed set and check.

I find it humerously disturbing that Rainbow would wear Sprite slippers. They are just about the right size.... I'm terrible >.<
"I hope you know what you're doing, Rainbow."
"You still doubt me, after all this time?"
"I don't doubt," Krys said as he paused at the door. "I worry."

Yeah...it is quite disturbing.FanChan wrote:I find it humorously disturbing that Rainbow would wear Sprite slippers.
Thanks for the info on the two-toned doll! I'm surprised that it is a common variant, since I've never seen another one in the 20 years it has been since I bought the one I own...Rainbow Brite wrote:I believe a sleeping bag that goes with it.
And I think you're right about the sleeping bag. I'm pretty sure I remember having a pink one that went with the set.

I don't think they're very common either. I noticed that yours has star shoes - I wonder if all the 12" red-bottom dolls do.Clinozoisite wrote:Thanks for the info on the two-toned doll! It's the one thing I forgot to take a picture of before boxing up...lol. I'll pull it back out soonAnd I think you're right about the sleeping bag. I'm pretty sure I remember having a pink one that went with the set.

Re: Help me ID, please!
Be mindful, this site I'm going to link you to is in Italian.
It states the "red bottomed" dolls are from "gift pack" dolls released in the US.
Rainbow Brite Doll Information (Italian)
It also explains the release of other rare versions, such as "Star Shoes".
Hope this helps!

Cool site! Had to use Google to translate it...lol. And what they say would make sense for the 12" red bottom dolls, but what about the 18" version? Those never came in a gift set as far as I know.
