I have just read that german programmer Armin Gessert, the creator of Giana Sisters - has died of a heart attack on 8th November 2009 at the age of 46. He and his company Spellbound Entertainment released a modern version of the game for the Nintendo DS in April this year.
Giana Sisters was a clone of Nintendo's famous Super Mario Bros for the NES but aimed at home computers C64 and Amiga that had no Mario, it was banned by Nintendo shortly after its release but that did not stop it from being spread across the globe. It was also the game that started off Germany's involvement in the videogame industry.
Armin died too soon, he will be missed! I used to have the original game floppy disk.
