Oh yeah. I forgot to ask about the spring toy release schedule at work. I've been busy lately.
As for the question of what fans they asked, I think they asked fans in real life. Granted, there are alot of vocal people on the internet, but the most vocal are not always the majority. The most vocal, do usually happen to be critics, however. They should have asked me. I'm all for this new Rainbow.

I highly doubt they asked people in real life I have never met a fan in real life. I have only at related events of collecting and that was ponies not Rainbow Brite which is not as well known. They mentioned blogs and so forth. Plain and simple there is deviant art and here otherwise RB fandom does not really exist much anywhere else.J3llyb3ans wrote:Oh yeah. I also highly doubt that rainbow fans were really asked about the new rainbow !
In my opinion the biggest mistake of the new design is that it is simply too adult in it s aesthetic appeal.
All looks like a alternative version of Barbie-toys.
If this was the purpose of the creators they did a quite good job.
Sadly this is not my cup of tea and even more sad is that because of this cut/extreme change of style I am forced to only be a fan of the original rainbow.
There are a lot of people who like rainbow and her universe so much because of the very high cuteness-factor!
And most of those fans will definitely not buy the new rainbow-toys.
Why must there be worlds between old and new rainbow ... it s never clever to alter good things too much.
It s the same with my little pony ... the older ones were cute and beautiful ... the new ones I saw 2 days ago when I did some christmas-shopping look like a surgeon removed all of their internal organs and they have hydrocephalies !
What s going on with the toy-creators ... have they lost there sense for cuteness and lovely shapes ???
I know it s always a individual matter ... eveyone has his own point of view regarding this all !

You know, now that I think about this, if they did ask fans, it probably was the fans that have children... Reading this made me think of a soccer parent I had who was just happy that Rainbow was making a comeback. I think if they talked to fans like this parent, you would get this sort of reaction.*C9* wrote:I highly doubt they asked people in real life I have never met a fan in real life. I want to know how they find these parents though. Kind of like how on the news when they tell you the results of random polls to get the president's approval rating. It's like, "Ummmmmm nobody asked me!" and you wonder just who it is they did talk to. lol
But I don't know, people who have fandom blogs are ususally pretty hardcore. Unless they found some woman's random Live Journal, saw a RB icon, then asked her. lol

I know what you mean. It doesn't seem like many of the toy makers are even creating much of anything original anymore. Everything seems to be based on the Hollywood Pop culture. Look at The Littlest Pet Shop, looks like something Paris Hilton would tote around. Shelf after shelf are crammed with trashy, slim dolls with makeovers, even animal-type toys have big eyes, are glammed up and slender. This really helps with girls' self esteem.Tom-sprite wrote:I also highly doubt that rainbow fans were really asked about the new rainbow !

I would say they took the big eyed bit as being inspired by the Japanese chibi-style and using the little bodies, big eyes, and larger heads for cute appeal. Of course, they had to make it better by their standards, so they probably added on the glamming up bit to be more American.Aquarious wrote:I know what you mean. @ Aquarious :
I have the same opinion about that matter !
Quite a long time passed since I saw some new original toys ...
I think there is something one could call "natural cuteness" ...
The new toylines very often do not have a puff of that ...
big heads with big eyes and tiny bodies...this is a typical schema of childlike characteristics ...
but this schema does not always work well when creators use this only because of self purpose ...
it turns out extremely ugly when it is exaggerated all the way to the stop and even worse is pointlessly mixed with adulty make-up ...
Children should be allowed to be children ...
I really dislike all this manipulation going on nowadays when it comes to toys !
The industry thinks :The marketing opportunities should be fluent blablabla ...
I really hate it !
Too little heart...too much greed !!!
I loved and still love the 80s rainbow-brite toyline because it did not have to fight with this difficulty !
The toys were totally suitable for children!

Yeah. That's pretty much what I was getting at. There are plenty of fans out there who don't have time for posting on forums and such, or maybe they just don't feel like it. This particular forum has had members come and go since I've been here, alone. Think about how many have come and gone throughout it's history. So we know not everyone who's a fan posts here.Chibi Rachy wrote:You know, now that I think about this, if they did ask fans, it probably was the fans that have children... Ultimately it's this generation that decides the success of the new Rainbow Brite. Not us old fans who post about what she was like when we were kids. She was redesigned to appeal to the younger generation, so it makes sense that some older fans wouldn't like it. I see how parents who grew up with the original would actually be thrilled with the new version regardless of the changes. I also would like to point out that the changes they made were significantly less than with other old properties that get revived.

I'm going to go the next level and say what everyone should realize but for some reason dosen't. Dolls weren't meant to look realistic. They're much like cartoon characters. The problem isn't the dolls, it's the people who fill your head with the idea that society expects you to look like that. If someone seriously thinks they should look like a doll, they've completely lost touch with reality and should seek help ..... or take a course in human anatomy.
