Christmas Song Collections

Post by Chibi Rachy »

So now that it feels more like Christmas, being December and snowy outside, I'm sure more and more of us are hearing various Christmas tunes sung by a large variety of artists. Are there any particular artists that you have to listen to during the holiday season that puts just the right spin on a Christmas classic or makes a new Christmas song for their album?

For me, it's been a tradition ever since I was little to listen to "Once Upon a Christmas" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. When I was little, we had the cassette tape. It got played when we decorated the tree. A couple years ago I was able to get the CD version of it so I wouldn't have to wear my tape out anymore. I always listen to it, and to me, it's not Christmas music without that CD.

So what artist's songs do you like to listen to that just wouldn't make it Christmas otherwise?

(Note: Christmas songs by cartoon shows are kinda a given, especially since Rainbow herself has one. You can list them, but actual artists are preferred)

Where Are You Christmas: Faith Hill.
New York Fairytale: The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl.
Somewhere In My Memory: John Williams (I don't mind the Bette Midler version either).
When Christmas Comes To Town:
Matthew Hall and Meagan Moore.
Merry Christmas (I Don't Want To Fight Tonight): The Ramones. (LOL!)

One of my favorites:

Shiroi Koibito Tachi: Keisuke Kuwata. (if you haven't heard this song or seen the video, watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zvS52Iz_ ... re=related)

Aside from all the major old classics....there are:

Where Are You Christmas by Faith Hill is actually one of the very few modern xmas songs I like. It has a deeply personal meaning for me...I was having a very hard time with panic attacks the year the Grinch came out and this song made me wail and bawl because nothing felt the same....

Merry Christmas (War is Over) by John Lennon and Yoko Ono

Don't they know it's Christmastime by Band Aid

Of the classics one that I have to say is one that's always stood out...Little Drummer Boy...i believe my favorite version of it is by "Harry Simeone Chorale" ...i'm not sure if that's the one...it's the one that is sung in the Rankin Bass Little Drummer Boy special from yeeaaars ago. Something about this song always moved me greatly.

I also love the Harry Belafonte version of "Mary's Boychild"...gorgeous. That's another song that for one reason or another can make me cry.

I also love the Chipmunks Christmas song....

You know what? I'll stop there...people will be hard pressed to find someone more obsessed with Christmas than myself so for me to even begin to list anymore...would be borderline ridiculous lol
