Uh... No.

One look at these dolls and horses, and instantly I knew I wasn't buying a single one. If I were going to buy one, it would be for the outfit. It'd looked better on my 26cm Bambicrony. They are terrible. They resemble Bratz dolls or all the other similar-looking dolls out there and Starlite is way too feminine. Where'd the rest of his hair go?

Usually the prototype is often the final form of the product, so this is it. This is what we're getting. That's what the real disappointment is. I was sort of hoping they wouldn't be so teeny-bopper and retained most of their 80's original looks, just a little older. Of course, having dealt with Playmates before and their stupidity with the Ninja Turtles line, I can't say I'm not all that surprised.

Post by Rainbow Brite UK »

Greetings Fans!

Rainbow Brite is featured in this months Sparkle World Magazine (available in US and Canada)

You can have a chance to WIN dolls from Playmates toys!
Inside was Also pictures of the New Rainbow Brite Dolls!
Including DIFFERENT versions of the Horses? Does anyone else notice the length of the hair is different? AND Starlite's hair is a different pattern?

I suspect these are from early prototype shoots, but are still nice to look at!

Interesting! I like the faces on the dolls pictured here much better...as well as Rainbow's longer hair. Do you know where this magazine is typically sold? I don't think I've seen it before.

I've never heard/seen it before either. Is it a mag geared at girls?

I'm not sure what I think of these doll versions. The faces are better, but Moonglo's doesn't seem right for some reason. Her hair's a bit flat, but the other two look nice.

Strange that they have kept changing the prototypes...Maybe the final version will be a lot better with it being pushed back to spring.

I attached an image of what the magazine is like, it looks familiar, Barnes & Nobles or Borders may have it.

The dolls in that pic look much better, Rainbow's hair is longer and their tails are too.

Oh, I just noticed, is the color green missing from Starlite's mane & tail? Or is it hidden?

Wow those dolls look so much better than that first picture. I love these. Their faces look right, Rainbow's hair is perfect. The length of the mane and tails for the horses is a lot better. If these dolls are the final product I'll definitely be buying them.

I like the dolls and wish I could be a kid once again to collect them. Unfortunately my mom would kill me if she seen me with dolls once again. Because she thinks they are meant for young children, go figure. Ah well. I still like to just look at the pictures of them and hope the others that do manage to get them keep them and sort of keep an archive of them and of their collections.

What I am kind of hoping for is maybe a new Lurky/Murky doll, perhaps. But I think they might be gearing more towards the "fashion doll" style as seen by the new looks of these dolls here. I wonder how the Sprites will turn out. I definitely would like to claim a Twink doll, though. Haha.

The faces look right? More like totally fake, and all 3 are the same, so static and unnatural they almost scare me. Trust me I tried, but I just can't friend with that design.

The magazine is listed under "Childrens" in US/CA bookshops, supermarkets, etc.

The cover and inside artical are on the main page of the site here.
