So I've shown Rainbow Brite to two of our daycare girls, Tren and Tyla (sisters). It was awhile ago. I got them to watch some eps on youtube because of Starlite. Tren loves horses, so it was easy. Today, Tren and Tyla were playing in my room. On a whim, I pulled out my RB books, the Saves Spring and Brook Meadow Deer ones. Tren wanted them read so I started with Saves Spring because Tren picked it (it had Starlite on the cover so for her it was a no-brainer choice.
Surprisingly, I got through the book and the next one. I'd always point out characters. Tren had a knack for calling Rainbow the "rainbow girl" and I still am not sure if I've gotten across the point that Rainbow is her name or not. She asked about the Color Kids at one point and who each one was. I showed her Murky and Lurky, but she had trouble with the names. She could always point out the "bad guys", but when asked their names she wouldn't know.
After I get through both those books, she still wants more. So I pull out my Treasury book and start with the stories in there. Finally, I'm able to get her to reply with names...
Me: (pointing to a pic of Murky and Lurky) Who are they?
Tren: Bad guys
Me: No, what are their names?
Tren: Bad guys!
Mom: (from the back of the house) Murky and Lurky, Tren!
Tren: Turkey and Lurky!
Me: Not Turkey. What is his name (pointing to Murky)
Tren: Turkey
Me: No, not that. What's his name? (again pointing)
Tren: Lurky
Me: No this (points) is Lurky. (points again) This is Murky
Tren: Turkey!
I eventually got across that it was Murky... but boy... Murky's been reduced to meat XD Tyla was more worried that I was in her "house" than the book. Tren wants to see the episodes again on youtube...she asked after we read the books. I'm surprised she's got such a good memory...but at least classic Rainbow shall live on in some way!

That is such a cute story. I got my 5 year niece into Rainbow Brite. But she's not into the cartoons are anything, she just likes the dolls.

XD That's great! Glad everyone enjoyed it. I know it was fun. I'ma still gonna try to get her to say Murky though... She loves being read to and the only reason she really likes Rainbow Brite is because of the horses. She always pointed out the horses.Starvoyager wrote:
