Gen 3 Dolls
I've updated my list of dolls/plastic figures from Gen 3 and was wondering if you other collectors would be so kind as to look over them and make sure I haven't missed anything:
http://www.rainbowbrite.net/collect/dolls.html
http://www.rainbowbrite.net/collect/plastic.html
Hopefully they're less confusing with the new way I've ordered them. I have almost all of these in my personal collection, but I do not have the Champ and IQ clip on Sprites. Do any of you have those, and if so, could you please post pictures of them for me?
There are also some Sprites pictured on the back of the Starlite/RB/Twink set box that confuse me. From the picture, I can't tell if they're the 7" Sprites or the 12" Sprites...but either way, there are IQ and Champ Sprites pictured there. There weren't Champ or IQ 12" Sprites, were there? And if they're 7" Sprites, do any of you own the Champ? Again, I'd love a picture if you do
Thanks!!

Gen 3 Dolls
.
For Gen 3
Was the 8" RB doll ever sold separately? I've never seen an MIB example. To my knowledge, there was RB, RD, CY and PG plus a matching Lite-Up sprite. There were several packaging variations, including a Canadian release with both English and French text.
The 12" RB 20th Anniversary Doll was totally separate from the rest of the line. I believe that it was not made by Toy Play, so it's not just a matter of looks. I'd list this one separately from the others. I also think there is a packaging variation.
The four 12" Toy Play dolls were sold two different ways. One was the doll only and the other was the doll and a matching small plush sprite.
There were three large RB 'dolls' that I didn't see. One was the 28" Cuddle Pillow. The next one was a backpack that was a small version of the cuddle pillow plus straps. The third was a hamper that was based on the backpack but did not have an entire doll's body.
For Gen 1, you didn't mention the DURB doll. I think the DU's should get a listing of their own as they're differently made from the others.
For Gen 2, there was a +/- 13.5" large RB made only for the European market. She looked very much the same as the 15" doll but was made completely differently. Construction was very similar to the Gen 1 dolls.

No, she was only sold in the RB/Starlite/Twink set, but dolls get separated from their packaging most of the time, so I wanted collectors/sellers to be able to find her more easily. The box says that she's poseable, but she's plush apart from her head...so I'm not sure if she's got wires in her or what. Do any of you have one out of the box?Blondine Arc-En-Ciel wrote:For Gen 3

Hmm, good point. I'm not sure where else I'd stick her though, unless we make another gen just for her Gen 3 is the right time frame for her, even if she was separate from the line. I guess I could either make another category just called "20th ANNIVERSARY" or include more details in the page I'll eventually make for her.The 12" RB 20th Anniversary Doll was totally separate from the rest of the line. I'll include details like that in the pages I make for each doll. Since the dolls look the same out of the package, it was too confusing to list them as separate dolls. Although I did notice today that my single POG's dress and shoes are not shiny like the POG/Lucky combo pack. Weird! The four 12" Toy Play dolls were sold two different ways. The Cuddle Pillows are listed under Pillow Dolls. Perhaps I should change the category name to Cuddle Pillow Dolls. Was that the official name? How many? Go look at Collection BAEC in Collecting. There are three links to photos there. One of them only deals with the Gen 2 dolls and is clearly marked. Have a look. You'll also see side-by-side comparisons between this one and the 15" North American versionRainbow Brite wrote:No, she was only sold in the RB/Starlite/Twink set, but dolls get separated from their packaging most of the time, so I wanted collectors/sellers to be able to find her more easily. Ohhhhhhh,......that changes everything. Were there two different 8" dolls? The one that you mentioned is from the gift set and the one I was talking about was sold together with the the Lite-Up sprites. The one that came with the Lite-Ups is a plastic doll. OK, I have them both, but my computer is not where my collection is so I can't look at the moment. Also, I don't have any loose Gen 3 dolls.

By all means list her with the other Gen 3 dolls but don't lump her together with the other 12" dolls. Just put her on a separate line with a blank line between her and the others.

Not really wierd. There were lots of small differences like that in Gen 1. One was likely made in a different factory than the other. Then again, that may have been another one of Patty's pranks.

Cuddle Pillow was the official name. It's on the tag of mine. Cut the straps off the backpack and you've got a doll... The hamper had the same head as the backpack but was otherwise different. I call her a 'doll' because she's closely related to the others.

18" Gen 3 dolls. I forgot to mention earlier that they seem to have been sold both with and without a DVD.

Oh gotcha. I listed the all-plastic 8" figures separately under "8 INCH POSEABLE DOLLS."Blondine Arc-En-Ciel wrote:Ohhhhhhh,......that changes everything. Were there two different 8" dolls? And I was noticing the DVD thing yesterday myself...as a couple of mine don't have them, and I'm sure I didn't remove them. Thanks for the reminder!

You added the 13.5" Euro doll right with the 15" US doll under the heading of 15" dolls.

There's a difference between the Cuddle Pillow and the Pillow Dolls that you mentioned.
The Cuddle Pillow only came as Rainbow Brite. She was about 28 inches tall and made from fuzzy fabric. She was stuffed with a soft, cotton-type of material. She was also well rounded.
The Pillow Dolls (actually Pillow Pals) were smaller. They included RB, at least two sprites and Lurky. They were much thinner, much flatter and made from smooth fabric.
I took some photos last night so I could put them on here but I left the camera's Compact Flash card at home. I'll get them up here in the very near future along with some other photos that may amaze you.

The entire line is on a single auction on ebay at the moment. You bought these as DIY projects. The items had to be trimmed and stuffed by the buyer. Then they had to sewn together. I don't think they were ever sold new as ready-made.
Here you go...
http://cgi.ebay.com/9-VINTAGE-RAINBOW-B ... 45f69bccf0
There's another auction with RB and SL.
The only one I have (and want) is Rainbow.
