Post by Galacticatt »

I love Rainbow Lurky- his fur is extra silky, his legs & bottom are made from soft red material- and he just looks so much nicer than regular Lurky.

He seems quite a bit bigger than regular Lurky too (although not nearly as large as Emotions Lurky) - but I almost think that this is just because of overstuffing and maybe he was even hand sewn (I can't tell). I love his soft orange nose and purple antlers too.

Anyways, I took a comparison pic to share the difference:

Image Isn't he neat?

One odd thing about him vs. the regular guy, is that he doesn't have a mouth!

He certainly IS neat and he may not have a mouth because he's just a prototype. Then again, it may have been to save a few cents per unit had he been produced.

Don't forget that there were three different versions of Lurky from Mattel. 7244 (which was also sold as 9698 in France) was the first and smallest version. 7881 was the large version, released about the same time as the Gen 1B dolls. G1078 was the Emotions version. Could be that your prototype was based on the large 7881 version.

There's an Emotions Lurky?? I'm not sure I was aware of that. And unless he's in a box somewhere, I don't have one. The search goes on...lol. How tall is the Emotions one?

Most certainly! I've got one.

I'll send the height later on.

I'm missing the big one.

Whew, thankfully that wasn't hard. Found one on Ebay, still with the plastic Emotions tag on his hand, for $20. Hopefully that was a fair deal...lol  The seller said he measures 14". Does that sound right? I believe the big Mattel one I have measures 16". I was lucky with him...found him at a thrift store many years ago. Although looking at these auctions, it seems the heights vary wildly...I wonder if some people are measuring to the top of his antennae or what. There are at least a couple of big ones on there if you're in the market for one.

Yeah- he is smaller than the Emotions one-

Katy, the Emotions Lurky didn't come in a box- he just has a paper tag and blue Emotions tag.

You can actually see a difference on this little pic- about halfway through this ebay guide- (the big one is Emotions lurky, the smaller is the regular Lurk that came in a box) http://reviews.ebay.com/Stormy-apos-s-S ... ssPageName (you can also see the difference between regular STarlite and the smaller Emotions Starlite...)

I think that both Lurkys can go for pretty cheap (of course the prices fluctuate)
I think you got a good deal if he still has the plastic tag-

14" sounds about right as that puts the Emo version halfway between the other two just as the Emo dolls were halfway (more or less) between the large and small regular dolls.

Measurements seem to vary widely. I measured a loose DURB and she came out slightly taller than a small RB even though she's supposed to be two inches shorter. With the Murkys, it's hard to see for loose items if it's a large or small one. Maybe it would be better to measure around the widest part of the body than to measure the height. With the MIB versions you can always ask the seller for the Mattel catalog number and explain it's on both sides of the box with the Mattel logo and it's also the last four digits of the barcode.

I may settle for a loose large Lurky until an MIB version comes around. Right now I'm trying to explain to someone in Florida how to fix things so I can bid on a USA-only auction. Part of what I want ends in four hours and I've got plenty of time for the rest. I haven't sold anything on the Evil Empire in several years so I had to look it up.

Hi, Sarah!

I just got 2 MIB small Lurkys for USD 46 plus shipping. They were from different sellers and started at different prices. Some turkey has been trying for a long time to sell one for almost USD 250 and it's missing the rounded upper part of the box! He's also asking USD 205 for a MIB Baby Brite. The next one on the hit parade is for USD 125. There's also a much cheaper one but bujt I no longer need any more
