San Diego Comic Con Masquerade & RB

Post by Aurora »

I looked around and did a few searches to see if this was mentioned on the forums anywhere, and I didn't see it.

I was at San Diego Comic Con last summer. I saw a couple of good Rainbow Brites. But the real reason I'm posting...

At one point during the masquerade, the master of ceremonies, Phil Foglio, announced the next group as "Rainbow Brite and the Color Kids". After a bit of delay, out comes an entirely different group. At the end of their skit, the audience started chanting for Rainbow Brite.

I'm sure you can imagine 100, even 400 people chanting it. But if you've never heard over FOUR THOUSAND people chanting "Rainbow Brite! Rainbow Brite! Rainbow Brite!" ...well, it's quite the experience.

Chanting starts around 1:30 into the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrwg8TdITx0

During every delay, the audience started up again, though not quite to the level of the first one. We never did get our Rainbow Brite, but it's a great memory. XD

You can hear it again at the very end of skit #19, the beginning of #22, [some of the between-skit time was cut for the next several], #28, #35, and again with #41, 42, and 43 when the audience gets rather insistent again. (What? I was re-watching the skits!) Great skits and a few moments of Capital-A-Awesome.

Anybody planning a Rainbow Brite skit this year? XD

XD That's funny! Guess that's one reason why you should be careful of picking your group's stage name!

I've not seen any Rainbow Brite at the conventions I've gone to, but when I was at Tekko last year, the guy at registration recognized Stormy on my shirt and knew it was Rainbow Brite related.

I don't do skits though. It would be interesting to see what someone would come up with.

That's funny- I saw a really cute Rainbow Brite skit from a French con (online of course) - I bought some of the costumes for me and my friends to wear on Halloween- they were awesome! Alas- Patty O'Green got sick and Red Butler ditched us at some point as he tried to catch every party that evening- but here's a phone pic we got of at least three of us- I'm Shy V. in this one :D

I love costumes-

I used to love to dress up for the San Diego comic con when I lived down there- but now I'm a bit old anyway so it's probably for the best that I stick with halloween !

I used to live in San Diego.
I have been to the Comic Con in 2005, 2006, and 2007. I was a Star Trek person from the original series. I had the red dress.

How cool! I LOVE all the Star Trek costumes- (especially the big groups!) I went in 2004,5,6- My aunt and uncle were animators (I don't suppose you ever saw the Wonderlens booth?) so sometimes we'd get to sneak in as "exhibitors" hehe

I've been pink kitty sakura, Yue- and some cutsie costume my aunt made to promote some sort of interactive screen-saver they made ;)

I might have seen the Wonderlens booth. Here is a picture of me with someone dressed as She-Ra. It is from 2006. I did see a Rainbow Brite the same year.
