need help choosing Halloween costume for local contest

I have always wanted to win a prize at my local costume contest and every year I stink. In the early 2000's I went as Clifford the Big Red dog (had short hair and was flat chested which worked well)
I painted my face red and doggish, but Rainbow Brite riding a real-life Starlite won.

I have friends who use sewing machines all the time for various projects. I was thinking of either a aged-up version of Rainbow Brite, carrying a Twink Sprite toy, an aged-up Coco Calypso with a stuffed parrot (Papaya) on her shoulder (good thing I have her brown, wavy hair), a 2007-2009 Wish Bear, carrying a stuffed star Twinkers, wearing shooting star behind ear. I prefer kid-friendly versions (not sexy)
because this is an all-ages contest. Most costumes of these characters in the right sizes are too sexy to be entered in this contest. Any advice for a first time machine sewer?
