I recently read about the mothman...does anyone know about him? I heard that the story and sightings took place in West Virginia, as I know some of you lives there, (Chiby!)did you ever hear about him???
Also I was wondering if anyone in their city has a story/tale or legend that everyone knows and passes to new generations?
Here in London, as everyone knows we have Jack the Ripper...ehe

Re: Folklore and History
Anyone who lives in WV should have at least heard of him, yes. I have read up on some of the stories surrounding him, but never much into it. It is pretty interesting.

Steubenville doesn't really have anything (Unless you count Dean Martin :p ), but I was recently up in Vermont at Lake Champlaigne, where Champ is - the little cousin of Nessy of Loch Ness.
I'm not sure if Pittsburgh, the nearest city, has one either. There is something amusing going on here in Steubenville, though, and that's that there's a young black bear wandering around. People up at the University keep spotting him. One group of people were having a picnic and were scared into their car while the bear got up on the picnic table and started eating their food xD
No one's gotten hurt yet, so it's still funny.

Since we're talking about other places we've been or have ties to, my college campus has some pretty interesting paranormal stories. They always post a news article on it every year at Halloween. It mentions a couple of my education professors in it. The residence hall where I stayed (we only have 1) is haunted as well. I've actually been participant to a few things.

Re: Folklore and History
In Duisburg (the town where i'm living) there is a mansion called "Wolfskuhlen" and i've heard so many different storys about that. Some People are telling that there was a protectory years ago and that children were killed and the dead bodies were thrown into a moor which is behind the mansion.
The mansion is still existing although it is comdemned. Other people are telling that there are black masses on the weekends. I am not sure if this is true.
I was there myself some years ago, it was scary (but i think due to the stories i've heard.)
There are many tales that this a haunted mansion.
I will show you some pictures.

Oh yeah, that reminds me. There's a Penitentiary (Jail) about an hour or so from here in West Virginia that's rather famous for being haunted. They have ghost tours most nights, where people get a tour of the place, then are allowed to roam free and take pictures and do whatever. They hold a haunted house type thing around Halloween, and I had one of my first dates there, which was rather amusing - proved that I was less easily spooked than he was. The Ghost Hunters went there for an episode, as well, and wound up deciding the place wasn't all that haunted at all, which was the feeling I got while I was there. Despite how spooky the place was, I felt quite comfortable there.

Oh I know that place! A bunch of people from college would go there around Halloween to see it. I've never been there though.FanChan wrote:Oh yeah, that reminds me. Re: Folklore and History
I was reading a few articles and watched a couple of documentaries about a place in Ireland called Leap Castle, which is supposedly one of the most haunted in the country. There's an 'elemental' ghost, or to put it more straight, a beast that lurks in the castle. Sometimes it take the forms of a beautiful lady in a red dress but then slowly transforms into a ugly sheep-like creature. Eesh, that brings a chill up my spine...
Sometimes I wish the Ghostbusters really did exist... ^_^
EDIT: Oops! Sorry, I just read that you wanted stories/folkore from OUR cities. I'm sure there's something round in Japan to find...

It's all right A bunch of us are contributing from other places we have ties to, not just our current location.Charles Xavier wrote:I was reading a few articles and watched a couple of documentaries about a place in Ireland called Leap Castle, which is supposedly one of the most haunted in the country.
