So does anyone out there collect DVD sets for particular series? Ever seen a series and knew you wanted the DVD set to keep or that you'd want to buy it when it came out? Or do you not believe in collecting such a thing? Or does the economy just suck so bad that it's not something that's important to you to gather?

Talk about what you think here, and list the series/sets you have collected or are collecting.

I love collecting sets of my absolute favorite series. I used to not be able to, but ever since I started working fulltime, I work to collect various sets. Some I collect as they come out. Sgt. Frog is currently the only series I do this for. Others I've gotten simply because I watched the series through and had to own that series. Some I buy when I can from series that were favorites, but not "had to have at that very moment."

This is what I've got:

Dinosaurs: Season 1 & 2
Dinosaurs: Season 3 & 4
Sgt. Frog: up to Season 2 Part 2 (which is the current release)
Soul Eater: up to Season 1 Part 2 (which is the current release)
Strawberry Panic
Fate/stay night
Kurokami: up to Part 1 (current release)
Rainbow Brite
Maria Watches Over Us: Season 1
Anne of Green Gables (70's anime version)
Simoun (the absolute best series ever!)

What about you guys?

I get what I can find, which isn't really a lot. I was lucky enough to find Duck Tales at the thrift store for like $5, and I have all the SheRa dvd sets except one. Last week I found The Gummi Bears dvd set! I was so happy cause I'd been looking for it in stores for 2 years! I also have 1 set of HeMan dvd's.....that may be it. For cartoon type sets anyway. ;)

Let's see, I've got:

Transformers (the classic cartoon series)
G.I. Joe: A Real American hero
Tiny Toons
Freakazoid
Card Captor Sakura
Digimon
Jackass
Viva La Bam
WildBoyz
Tenchi Muyo!
Sailor Moon
Dae Jang Geum
Love Hina
Monty Python's Flying Circus
The Critic (sadly, a forgotten animated show which I think is much funnier and cleverer than the jokes you see similarly on Family Guy. It also predated Family Guy five/six years).

Just to name a few...

(Economy? HA! The economy can kiss my butt cheeks :P )

I have a lot of DVDs. Yes, I realize that my basement is a blast from the past, but I'd rather spend money on things other than redecorating.

In addition to the ones pictured, I have 2 more shelves which are full of anime and American cartoons (like He-Man, the Transformers, etc). I need to do some reorganization, though, since I have a bin of unshelved/unsorted DVDs. But I'd need a third "regular movies" storage shelf. And I don't really have the room for it on that wall...

As for my giant anime collection (400+ discs), I blame RightStuf. And their amazing sales. :P

Holy crap, Clino.... o.O

That is a ton of sets! My anime sets are small and I rarely pay full price for any set. Between Borders running discount coupons and amazon.com running sales, I usually get them for some kind of discount. I'll get another set once my credit card reaches 2500 points again... I'll have a $25 card for amazon.com then!

And Charles, you're right. Economy can kiss it XD I buy what I love.

So to add on to this: Which of your sets gets the most love?

Mine would be Simoun. I've watched various eps of the show 2 and 3 times, and that doesn't include the times I watch it for references for fanfic purposes. Overall the series continues to keep my interest and I love doing rewatches and catching the little things that I missed the first time through.

Wha wha what?? I wanna see this! I adore the 80's movies!

As far as DVD series I own...I've got He-Man, She-Ra, and Monty Python's Flying Circus. I rarely buy them cause they're so expensive. I typically just rent them or watch them streaming on Netflix.

Lol, yes there was a 70's version done of the show. From an early version of Studio Ghibli too if I remember right. I know I got mine off ebay years and years ago. I don't think mine is an official release, but it's wonderfully true to the books. I have no idea where you could find it now, but it's called "Akage no Anne"

The 80's movies are great, but my favorite is the 3rd one...and I like to pretend that prequel one never happened

You like The Continuing Story? I dunno why I had trouble getting into that one. I don't think I can choose between the first and the sequel...they're both so wonderful :)
