Hot Chocolate

I thought I'd make a cup of hot chocolate this afternoon. Why not, it's that time of the year, right?

So I got the box out of the cupboard, took out an envelope and poured the contents into a Rainbow Brite ceramic mug.

Then I put water into my Senseo coffee maker. I put a pad holder in but no pad. Then I pressed the Start button. The machine came on and soon the water was heated.

And then it hit me. I had some chocolate sauce somewhere. I thought that would make my warm drink taste even better. I found the bottle, opened it and tried to pour out some of the contents. Nothing doing. This is a very thick sauce and the recent cold temperatures made it even thicker.

Hmmm. OK, what next. I still wanted to try this combination but the sauce wasn't being very helpful. I thought that heating it up would make it flow so I reached for a pot and started to put water in it. I quickly stopped when I realized there was a better, quicker and cheaper way. I've got a small electric boiler that will bring a litre of water to a boil in a few minutes. The water from the pot, about half a litre, went into that.

In the meantime, I let the now-heated water from the Senseo flow into the cup.

I heated the water in the boiler but not to boiling. Then I put the bottle of sauce into the water for about three minutes. It barely made a difference. A couple minutes more in the water didn't much change things, this sauce really had been very thick! After a couple more minutes there was a slow and steady flow, but not enough. A couple more minutes in the hot water produced the desired result. Actually, it was rather too much of a good thing as the sauce was now flowing freely and caused my cup to overflow.

I cleaned up the mess and stirred the contents of the cup.

WOW!!! Was that ever good!!! :bg: . I added a little more sauce and EXCELLENT!!! :bg: :bg:

It had been worth the effort. :sun: :sun: :sun:

Toooooooo bad for you :bg: ;)

It may be sold under another name in Germany.

Whenever I go to Germany, I stop in a Plus supermarket and buy some things. The prices are good and I can find stuff that we don't have here. Plus is related to another chain of supermarkets but I can't remember the name. They have a yellow sign with red letters so I always recognize it if I see it.

Ah, but this creation is not quite complete.

Thou must also add a couple drops of vanilla extract, and a generous sprinkling of cinnamon.

P.S. For optimal results, play in the snow before drinking.

Thought I'd add to the conversation. Here in the United States, Walmart sells Mexican style hot-chocolate mixes that have a cinnamon taste with the chocolate.
