So...
East Coast is getting the second large storm of the winter season this year. It started early this morning, but school had already been cancelled for all counties in the area. Smart move on their part, for once. The current prediction for my location is 20-28 inches. Originally it was 16 inches, with a good chance over 20 inches.
Who else is stuck in the storm's path, and what's the prediction for your area? I can't remember being hit with more than one huge storm in my life. The biggest storm I remember was from early high school. I don't remember how many inches, but I remember a state of emergency being declared and Rt. 50 being covered. No vehicles were to be on the road, and my siblings and I went and played in Rt. 50, making snow angels in the passing lanes and writing in the snow as well.
And to be clear, I do love snow, but at the time that Groundhog Day comment was made, I was stressed, hated having my lesson plans messed with, and really wanted two days of spring break off that I knew would have to be made up. Also, I prefer early spring to more winter because spring is a lovely time of year. However, yesterday we were officially told the days we'd lost (3 days of spring break, and 1 day in June) and I was the first to put in for those spring break days with my principal so I got them off. Only 3 people from our school are allowed by the Board to miss those make up snow days. I have Tekkoshocon to attend with Fanchan, which is from the 8th-11th this year because of Easter falling the weekend before. I didn't want to miss out on the con. So yes, I could be the adult reincarnation of Stormy, as Blondine put it, especially with my temper and stubbornness.
At this point, nothing to do but enjoy the snow, complete the school work I have (which may be pointless because we may be out some next week), and relax. I've got the days off I wanted and we can only attend school til the 8th of June.

Re: 2nd Large Storm of the Winter Season
Our area is expected to get up to 2 feet of snow over the weekend. We did all of our grocery shopping yesterday, so we are as prepared as we can get, lol.
I remember when my sister was in the hospital in Buffalo, NY when she had her daughter, My family & I were leaving for home & ALMOST got caught up in that horrible snow storm in '06. It chased us out actually, you can actually see how close the storm clouds were. You should of seen the people trying to get back into Buffalo. A lot of people were stuck in traffic through that :/

We're to get over 2 ft at this point... The last update from the weather site said 20-30 inches, with 30+ expected in some areas. At this point my dad is stuck in Morgantown, WV with my one younger brother (he's 19). Brother has something wrong in the appendix or intestines and dad's staying with my other younger brother between visiting the hospital. So dad won't be home for quite awhile.Aquarius wrote:Our area is expected to get up to 2 feet of snow over the weekend. Re: 2nd Large Storm of the Winter Season
So the 2nd storm is all said and done. We ended up with 33 inches, with the most in the surrounding area being 38. Things are all whack and even though the main road is plowed, it's snow packed. Oh and we're to get another storm tomorrow that'll add 5 inches or more onto this. I think Stormy needs to learn control...

I'm very happy that I didn't get involved in that! Winters here tend to be rather milder. We do get some snow, but nothing like that.

Re: 2nd Large Storm of the Winter Season
We don't typically get such large storms during winter either. Most winters there may be one larger storm, and it might close school for one or two days, but nothing too bad. A year like this is rarer, and giving record amounts of snowfall for the area.Blondine Arc-En-Ciel wrote:I'm very happy that I didn't get involved in that! Winters here tend to be rather milder. Re: 2nd Large Storm of the Winter Season
We never see 28 inches of snow here for an entire year, much the less one storm.
For all that I have some friends that live 110 Km/70 miles southeast of me. Not only do they get much more snow, it's a LOT colder where they live. Of course they are out in the country and that makes a big difference as cities are usually warmer. It often gets to minus 20°C for them where it might be minus 5°C for me.

Re: 2nd Large Storm of the Winter Season
It's not been too cold here with these storms. For awhile we were under 10 F, but then it jumped to 40 for a week before going back to 25-32 F. I'm hoping this is the last of the big storms for the season. February is when the worst storms hit for whatever reason.Blondine Arc-En-Ciel wrote:We never see 28 inches of snow here for an entire year, much the less one storm.
