Hah I've always been told to grow up. When some people learn about the fanfiction genres I stick to, I get that a lot. It doesn't bother me. I quickly learned when I was younger that I liked what I did and screw anyone else.
I can't count the times in high school that my friend and I were made fun of for our love of Digimon. I don't watch it anymore, but I love finding little things about it. College, I got the same thing. At that time, I got back into Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers and began heavily working on fanfiction in that area. Didn't stop me. I also got back into Dinosaurs...some people thought it was cool...then again my room was always overly stimulating (4 tier checkerboard border of photos around the room, posters, couple hundred children's books for teaching, and near 50 rubber ducks will do that). My fanfiction work progresses from DBZ to Digimon to Power Rangers to Rainbow Brite. I have my original 2 fanfics I wrote but never typed up...I'd not trash them. I have all my Digimon stuff packed away in a box too.
Now it's Rainbow Brite and I know I'd get the same thing. I grew up a kid at heart and that's how it'll always be. I love getting with the daycare or talking to my students about the cool stuff today. I love the look of shock on my students' faces when they find out I know a little bit about Pokemon or Hannah Montana or what-have-you. It's fun. Knowing kids' stuff comes with the whole working with 'em bit and I wouldn't trade that. And I love that the person I'm into is a kid at heart too. That is a special thing indeed.
