So I'm sure most of you have some kind of plans tonight. What are you going to do to ring in the New Year?
And then of course, there are the dreaded resolutions. Love them, hate them, many people make and break them. So if you do make resolutions, what do you plan to do? I know I tend to write some in my journal each year, but usually they are goals I can keep... I can't even remember if I did last year or what they were. Probably won't make any this year. Not sure yet.
Myself, I'm off to my parents' house this evening to celebrate. We usually make a variety of oven food- pizza, cheese sticks, meatballs, etc. and play games throughout the evening. Those of us who are legal kick back with a few drinks, which I am also looking forward to. Once it gets closer to midnight, we'll watch the ball drop, but we don't watch it all evening.

I ate some pizza, went to Target (got the last 10 inch Rainbow doll and size XL Hello Kitty tee) and am planning to stay up all night. For the new year, the local Girl Scouts are having crafts, games, pizza and a sleepover.

I don't know about the poll, but I can tell you that I went free skate with live music. It's fun.

Glad to see those of you who've responded so far have had fun.
I did look back at my journal to see if I'd made any resolutions and found that I was fed up with the idea, especially ones dealing with relationships and so decided not to do any. Of course, that didn't really change my luck with relationships so we'll see how this year goes.

Thank you Chibi Rachy! Happy New Year to you and all members! I always stay home on New Year's Eve. It's too wild a night for me to be out. I usually have a quiet celebration with a special family dinner and Rockin New Year's Eve with Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest. I also always watch the Twilight Zone marathon on the SyFy channel. I'm a big fan of that show. It's hard to believe that we have completed another decade.

I'm late on this one. I voted for make and keep my resolutions, even if it takes longer than I planned. Sometimes it only works out partially.
Anyway. Happy new year, everyone! Let's make it the best yet!

Re: Happy New Year's Eve/New Year's
I went to Cologne/Köln in Germany to meet with a friend from Hannover. She was delayed by the winter weather an arrived over two hours late.
The plan was that we would meet around 1 PM and discover the city center to include a walk over the Hohenzolleren Bridge across the Rhien River, which is a popular local pastime. Given the delay and miserable weather, that part was forgotten about. We walked through the cathedral and around the business district, which is packed with shops and places to eat of all kinds. We came across a pink corridor that loud music was coming out of and went to have a look. It led to a small shopping gallery that was partly open-air and included a bar where the patrons were sitting at tables that were exposed to the weather except for a canopy. We looked around and went back to the street, wondering why people would do that in sub-freezing temperatures. We made some pictures in the pink corridor and also outside under the holiday lighting which came out very nicely. After a while we noticed that we had left the central area and turned back. After more walking we came back to the center and had dinner in a Chinese place that was quite good. During the meal we exchanged presents. soon after, it was time to return to the station, just around the corner, so she could return to Hannover to be with her friends and family for the New Year. As it turned out, her train back was 40 minutes late so we got back some of the time we lost earlier.
During the course of the evening we did a lot of talking. If she didn't know it previously, she now fully understands the important place that she has held in my life since we first met about 11 years ago. She's almost 20 years younger and taken, but we still remain close friends even if we only see each other a few hours a year and exchange a few phone calls and mails.
After she got on the train, I took the U-bahn (underground//subway) to the closest stop to the hotel that I'd reserved a room in. I did stay up to past midnight and returned the next day.
And yes, there's a link to Rainbow Brite in this story. About five years ago I gave her an MIB Regina Regenbogen doll as I didn't know her real age back then. She looks younger than she is so I thought that she might have had one of these dolls in her younger years. She had no idea of what it was when she opened it but thought it looked cute. I learned later that Regina Regenbogen came out during her last year of secondary//high school, long after she had stopped playing with dolls...
We agreed that our next meting will be in warmer weather. We may even return to Köln again to walk across that bridge and to see the old town.
So, until then.
