Buddy Blue W Champ Sprite Mint Sealed in Box w Ring? Hula?

I just recently picked up two Rainbow Brite dolls mint sealed in the box never opened, but my Buddy Blue has me a little confused, maybe someone on here can answer it. He has some kind of black ring in between him and Champ Sprite. Does anyone know what it is? The box is sealed with factory tape it's never been open, I have both dolls inside of a plastic sleeve.
