Hi everyone,
After becoming more familiar with the series, I found out that Rainbow Brite has a comic book series in Germany. I currently don’t own any issues, since whenever I see them being sold over on ebay they either don’t ship internationally or if they do, the shipping price from Germany to Canada is very expensive.
However, I did save up a few scans that the sellers uploaded. From what I can tell, the art is different from story to story, therefore, the quality of the art changes a lot. Some stories draw the characters on model while some are very off model.
It's pretty interesting to see the Dark Princess making an appearance in this series since she never shows up in the German Tapes.
This one seems to be pretty adventurous; I'm curious about this story in particular(also Murky and Lurky are wearing some cute winter outfits).
Not so sure what's up with that horse dragon thing...
Murky and Lurky seem to be in some kind of disagreement.
I don't think this one is from the comic book series, but this one is very interesting because this is the only version of Lurky I know of that doesn't speak. Instead his thoughts are show in thought bubbles, similar to characters like Snoopy or Hot Dog from the Archie series.
If anyone has any thoughts on these comics, feel free to elaborate on them. I haven’t seen much of them aside from a few scans. I’m curious about what kind of stories are in them.
I also found out that there are Italian Rainbow Brite comics and there's a site that's scanned all of them. I did a couple of rough translations, but I haven’t translated all of them yet. The stories are pretty repetitive as they can be summed up as Murky tries to make something gray, Rainbow makes it colourful again, the end. So they got pretty boring fast and it doesn’t help that they use a lot of stock art (although it’s well drawn for the most part). But who knows, I might translate more of them in the future though. I could share them if anyone wants to see them.

I own 26 of the German Comic Magazines, but still have a ways to go to collect all of them. I'm pretty sure there are 46 in total:

I think Marco was working on scanning them at one point, but not sure how far he got. They're huge, so scanning them is a huge undertaking. I would LOVE to know the stories though. Hopefully one day! And you're right - the art is very interesting.
As far as the Italian comics go - are you referring to the ones that were in the Poochie magazine(s)?

I'm sorry I disappeared, my interest drift elsewhere. So I haven't been visiting or keeping up with the news all that much. In spite of this, I recently became kind of curious on Rainbow Brite again. Not only did I found out that Hallmark released some cute Murky and Lurky itty bittys but I discovered some more scans from the German Comic series through Ebay. I wanted to share some of these with you guys.
Regular Humans in Rainbowland? It's more likely than you think. Unlike with the TV series where humans only show up in Rainbowland as visitors, the German Tapes suggest that there are humans living in Rainbowland. It seems like these two scans are suggesting the same thing. Stromy being antagonistic. This is a different issue and now she's Rainbow's ally According to the title, she's Murky's aunt. She's closer to Murky's height than Mrs. Dismal. Now we know that Murky has a mother and an aunt, while Lurky has a mother, a father and a brother(who shows up in both the concept art and the German tapes). It's interesting when we learn more about these character's backgrounds

These are great! Do you know which issues they're from? I found someone to help translate the comics and have been working on that project through my Patreon:

Okay well the scans with the humans are from volumes 5 and 6. The first scan with Stromy is from volume 23 and the one with Murky's Aunt is from volume 26. I think the scan where Stromy is attacking Murky and Lurky is from volume 24, but I'm not so sure.Rainbow Brite wrote:These are great! Do you know which issues they're from? I thought I shared this scan in the previous post but it turns out I didn't. Might as well share it now. So, here's a scan of Murky trying to make amends with Lurky. I think Lurky ran away from home, most likely because Murky was mean to him. It's from volume 10.

I recently came across these British comics for sale on EBay. They feature many children's characters including Rainbow Brite. I have never seen the comics before.
