It just means that they were toys manufactured prior to the new US toy laws. I've had my Rainbow Brites since 1983 and nothing has happened to me, yet. Your grandkids should be fine. :)

I haven't heard of any but you can purchase a lead test kit from the paint department from places like lowes and home depot. just find a spot on the doll that will be inconspicuous and rub it with the swab and wait a few moments. It may remove the paint or discolor what you test though so don't do it on something that is expensive or hard to find or it could be ruined.

THANK YOU BUT THE DOLLS AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER ARE IN GEORGIA. MY MAIN CONCERN,OF COURSE IS TO FIND SOMETHING DOCUMENTED STATING THEY ARE SAFE. I HAVE BEEN GETTING THEM FOR HER FOR OVER A YEAR.WHAT DO I DO,TAKE THEM BACK ? I MADE HER RB CURTAINS AND A BED SPREAD. I GOT HER A COUPLE SETS OF RB SHEETS. SHE LOVES HER RB. I JUST THINK E BAY SHOULD NOT ALLOW SELLERS TO SELL ANYTHING WITHOUT THE SEAL OF BEING SAFE ! MY DAUGHTER HAD RB WHEN SHE WAS LITTLE AND I WAS SO EXCITED TO FIND ALL THE RB ON E BAY THAT I NEVER EVEN THOUGHT ABOUT A SAFETY ISSUE :-( JUST OUT OF SORTS ABOUT THE WHOLE THING :-(

I APPRECIATE YOUR POST BUT I WOULD FEEL BETTER TO FIND SOMETHING DOCUMENTED SAYING THEY ARE SAFE :-) I AM REALLY ANGRY THAT E BAY WOULD SELL ITEMS THAT COULD NOT BE SAFE FOR CHILDREN !

Umm...they're vintage dolls. No one is going to pay to run 2011 government-approved toxin tests on them. 28 years ago they passed the 1983 toy standards. The seller you mentioned above is just stating that they *may* not meet current government standards...not that they for sure *don't*.

As much as I appreciate you wanting your grandkids to be safe, I think your concerns about eBay's policies for selling vintage toys are a bit extreme.

If you want to buy her modern Rainbow Brite toys, some of them are still available for sale via eBay or Amazon. These meet current government regulations regarding toxins.

YOU CAN NEVER BE TO SAFE WITH CHILDREN. IF THE FIRST TIME I WENT TO EBAY TO CHECK OUT RB MERCH.AND THE SELLER OF THE ITEM POSTED COULD BE TOXIC,I WOULD NEVER HAVE PURCHASED AMY RB. IT WAS NOT UNTIL I HAD BEEN BUYING RB OFF OF EBAY FOR OVER A YEAR DID A SELLER LIST COULD BE TOXIC. CALL IT OVER REACTING OR WHAT EVER YOU CHOOSE. I STICK WITH THE FACT THAT WE SHOULD KNOW THE SAFETY RISKS ABOUT ANYTHING WE BUY. BE IT THE STORE OR ONLINE. CROSSTITCH
