Can someone explain the significance of this auction? Is this some rare version? I've never seen a doll sold in a plastic bag before...

I've gotten RB stuff like that from time to time. The seller may have put them in the bags to keep the dust and dirt away. Or it may have been done just for shipment.

Or is that just the traditional paper insert from the boxed toys? I wouldn't know, since almost all of my collection is from my childhood and either never had boxes (garage sale items) or I promptly threw the box away...

That looks like the regular story booklet that came with all of the Gen 1 dolls.
