Rainbow Brite and Color Kids

Post by cwmodels »

Some of you on Deviant Art may have seen these already. But I want to share it with everyone here too.

These redesigns are by my friend Alpha2. I helped with some of the concepts and the color settings. We started toying around with the idea of updating Rainbow Brite characters back around 1995 for fun. Rainbow Brite, Red Butler, LaLa Orange, and Canary Yellow were done in 2000. We drifted away from this idea until last week and finally finished off the rest of the Colors Kids.

Please let us know what you think!

Thank you all for your comments.

Seems like Patty, Indigo and Violet are the 3 characters that are most popular in the redesigns.

Rainbow's redesign was completed a long time. It's good to finally have all 7 color kids done, and we're currently working on all other characters as well.

Because she's... shy?

I like the Buddy-blue manga redesign most ... (except his chin) ! :)

Outfits are great ... outlines have recognition value and colouring is very good too ! :-D ^^
Some eyes look a little bit lifeless ... (like if the char would be under a spell or such a thing)
...but I really like what you ve done ...you guys have great talent ! ^^ :)

Thanks for your comment. You do nice work yourself.

All the eyes are all done with 1 base color and 1 high-light color. The coloring on this piece is simply for color sets and references purposes. We want to get the designs finished and out of the way after 10 years of talking and planning. Funny things is when I started to put all the characters together for this piece, we realized we do not have any high resolution scans of Red and Yellow, and the original pencil art could not be found either. So we had to retrace the line art from a low-res printouts to have a cleaner version of the artwork.

Here are the 2 original low-res scans for them:
