I am not savy enough to accomplish such without a tremendous amount of research and work- alas for being old

Well, most newer computers have the option to have bluetooth on them, but it used to be just on business ones. I'm not sure of the other options available for transfer since my computer has bluetooth on it. I didn't have to install any outside programs for transferring though. All I have to do is right-click my file then do ->Send to->Bluetooth device and then continue from there. It delivers it in my message inbox and then I just save it to my phone.
You can see if your computer is bluetooth capable by going to the control panel. There should be an icon for bluetooth there. If you run XP, you have to enable "Classic View" of the control panel so that you can easily find this icon.
