Rainbow Brite Gets Rescued Hardcover

Post by Rainbow Brite »

All these different book editions are driving me bonkers! I accidentally got a second copy of RB Gets Rescued and while comparing copies to determine which to keep, I noticed that the newer one had some slight differences. The copyright info spacing on the title page is different and the back covers are different. One only lists 6 other RB books, while the other lists 8:

You would think the second was a second printing or something, but it doesn't say that anywhere inside the book. Plus the UPC's and ISBN's are exactly the same. What do ya'll make of it?

Do any of your copies of Big Color Mix-Up, Happy Birthday BB or Color Thieves have all 8 RB books listed, or only 6 like mine?

I've never heard of more than six in the large hardback titles.

The last two aren't the large variety. They're RB Saves Spring (Golden Melody Book) and RB and the Brook Meadow Deer (Little Golden Book).

hey I have that little golden book! I have two of the large books, now I'll have to go look!

ok, so I have rb & the big color mix up & it's got the 6 books listed on back
big color mix up,happy bday buddy blue, color theives,rb gets rescued,rb saves spring & the two golden books

but the rb & the color theives book has 8.
has all the others but added starlight saves the day & twinks magic carpet ride.

I have the brook meadow deer book in the golden book & golden book melody book, but it's missing the tape that goes along with it.

I'm learning all kinds of new things about books through this research...lol. I was ignoring the different alphabet letters at the bottom of the title pages:

6 title version: A B C D E F G H I J
8 title version: D E F G H I J

I just didn't know what they meant. But now I do:

"Number lines have been commonly used in the post-World War II era.
The line commonly is a series of numbers (ex: 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 or 1 3 5 7 9 8 6 4 2. Occasionally a letter line is used (ex: a b c d e). Generally speaking, if the "1" is present, the book is a first edition (first edition, first printing).

For the second printing, the "1" is removed, so the "2" is the lowest number present. For example, a number line that reads 5 6 7 8 9 indicates a fifth printing."

So there are multiple printings of all these books. And I guess the only way to find out how many is to compare notes...lol. Here are the ones that I have:

Rainbow Brite and the Big Color Mixup - B
Happy Birthday Buddy Blue - A
Rainbow Brite and the Color Thieves - B & C
Rainbow Brite Gets Rescued - A & D
Starlite Saves the Day - A
Twink's Magic Carpet Ride - A & B

That's quite interesting and it goes to show that paying attention to details can be important for collectors.

I recently acquired the 8-title-backed version of RB and the Color Thieves and it's consistent with our theory, as it's a "D" printing. So here's an updated list of which printings I own:

Rainbow Brite and the Big Color Mixup - B
Happy Birthday Buddy Blue - A
Rainbow Brite and the Color Thieves - B, C & D
Rainbow Brite Gets Rescued - A & D
Starlite Saves the Day - A
Twink's Magic Carpet Ride - A & B

I'd love to see what others have :)

The six large hard back books are available in French and I suspect in several other languages. I have three of the French ones and hope to find the rest.
