New RB in Mexico

An RB fan on Facebook has told me that the new RB dolls are being sold in Mexico (with Spanish text on the box), but are listed as distributed by Mattel!! I wonder how on earth that happened? I'm hoping to get some pictures from him soon and will share them here if I do. I guess now we know why RainbowBrite.com added a Spanish feature.

I've seen Gen 4 dolls for sale on ebay Brazil a month or two ago. Then again, they speak Portuguese there and not Spanish. No idea how they got there or who is behind them.

I wonder if Mattel is continuing with the line there or they are just for distribution by Mattel in Mexico? That's weird.

Are these the same dolls that were released by Playmates or entirely new dolls based on the new character designs?

I asked Toyguru (mattel rep) about this yesterday and today his response was

"Mattel does not currently hold the license for Rainbow Brite."

:-( so... i'm not sure what this fan is seeing in mexico but they must be confused.

Here's a photo of the packaging with Spanish text on it. The close ups are too fuzzy to tell whether it says anything about Mattel or not, but so far I can't see it.
