Cute article! My family tells me horror stories about how my one and only Cabbage Patch doll was acquired one Christmas. I'm glad that Rainbow Brite dolls were easier to find, as I absolutely love all of mine (and honestly have no idea where my CP doll is, now).

Cool article! Thanks for finding and posting :D

It sounds like Rainbow Brite has always had a little trouble with marketing -

"Rainbow Brite has a cast of characters (Red Butler, Patty O'Green, Murky and Lurky Dismal), transportation (Starlite, a flying horse), little friends (Sprites, tiny dolls that come with each bigger doll) and, of course, a story line about Rainbow Land, where they all live.

"It's really cute stuff," Osman said. "But Rainbow Brite hasn't been on TV yet that much. Once it gets exposure, it's going to sell.""

If this was written late in 1984, it was highly accurate. The 13 episodes were about to play out on US TV and there was absolutely nothing to follow up on them. With no new animated material to show on Saturday mornings, there was no continuing exposure at other than the point of sale. Too bad Mattel and Hallmark didn't read it or take it seriously.
