*pops through the door as everyone is passing around cake* "awww... puddin'pops!... I missed the party didn't I?"
As some of you know I used to lurk on this forum a year or so ago, but since there was nothing really going on in the world of RB (and the forum moved) I kinda fell off the edge of rainbowland. Lo and behold I did a search and saw that RB had been revamped for today's kids and I remembered this place and some of the people who used to lurk here with me like major ursa, and starvoyager.
It looks like most of you seem to like the new RB design, wish I could agree but I must say up front that I was never a fan of 'aging' RB or 'anime-ing' her either. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE anime, and I love lots of the fan art that people make, I guess I'm just old fashioned.
I do like some things about the new design, mainly the sprites, puppy brite, and the fact that tickled pink now has a 'purpose' as the color kid in charge of the sunlight? ...or whatever. But my main reaction to the redesign when I first saw it was that of Charlton Heston in planet of the apes... "You maniacs! You blew it up! Darn you! Darn you all to heck!" lol
My main gripe is this, Rainbow brite, who was once Wisp, became RB and that was it! In the new one, from what I could tell by the animations, she's a normal everyday girl that transforms into RB ah-la sailor moon. I cringed, I cried, I tried to choke my computer. They took away the fact that she's supposed to be a little girl and made her a tween, and a mortal/human tween at that. This does not bode well in my book, as that opens up an almost super hero like alter ego to a 'normal' form. Not to mention if I hear RB talk like a valley girl, or use teen slang... I'll die a little more inside. I can see it now, RB hanging out at the mall, checking out boys while playing withe her make-up and cell phone. >_<
I just don't like much of the redesign at all, too generic, too sailor moon-ish (and I'm a huge fan of SM) my pretty little pink haired moonglo is gone magic wands?.... really? (tho I have to admit, TP's is neat looking) and no color kids?
In the infamous words of Mr. Horse... "No sir... I don't like it!"
I had hoped that they wouldn't take it this route... but they did, and I fear the worst. But I'm glad so many of you like the new version, I'll just have to wait for old school RB to come out on an official dvd... (some time soon right hallmark?)
ok /endrant
*please note, this is my opinion, and in no way a 'bash' on the new RB.*

Hi Moonxtal ! ^^
I have the same opinion like you regarding new rainbow.
I don t think you bash new-RB.
In my opinion your criticism is totally justified. ;-)
I think they forcefully made RB and her friends look glammed up and I do not like that a lot too.
(only my personal opinion)

I'm not too happy with the Gen 4 dolls either. Time will tell if they will catch on or not. At least they keep the Rainbow Brite name before the public so for that I am happy.

Yeah I feel the same way. To be honest, they look like 14 or 15 year olds, yet they are supposed to still be kids. Well, they should have made them look like kids. Maybe they are trying to compete with Bratz dolls with the long legs, and short skirts look who knows.Blondine Arc-En-Ciel wrote:I'm not too happy with the Gen 4 dolls either. But, seeing Rainbow Brite pop up again is cool.

Welcome back. We're all very happy you found us again! And I'm sure many of us completely agree with your sentiments regarding the new RB toy line.Moonxtal wrote:I remembered this place and some of the people who used to lurk here with me like major ursa, and starvoyager.
Also, you may wish to read this thread, as Major Ursa died this past July.

With the one-year anniversary approaching, I'm sure Kenny's family wouldn't mind additional condolences.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, Moonxtal, and you are not alone in it either. I too despise this new Rainbow Brite. She looks like a Valley Girl Bratz doll.
How sad and such a shame Hallmark felt she needed to modernize to fit today's world. While that's not wrong, they did it poorly. They changed too much and now it's so alien.

*waves* I'm still around, though I don't post much on forums anymore.
I'm not a huge fan of the new design either, although the look by itself isn't bothering me as much as it used to.
I wrote a very long rant in a thread I made last year when the first press release arrived, stating what I was scared was going to happen, and... most of it was spot on.

My opinion is that the dolls are not perfect- but not terrible- not how I would have made a re-release, but I am sure my ideas would have been equally loathed/loved.
Anyway the 15" doll is downright cute (in my opinion)- and i think the dolls are cute too if a little lacking in detail (hardly surprising- probably a small budget, Playmates is a very small toy company with very narrow profit margin)
Over all a thumbs up from me- I would rather have something new than nothing at all - if nothing else, the outfits are awesome, the horses are pretty and I love the colored hair. (also they all remind me of how much I love the originals!)
