Stormy2009 and I have been fans of Rainbow Brite since a few months before anyone knew about the 2009 relaunch and we love the 80's look so at least we got our wish for oldskool tees in our sizes. :)
Cool. :) Ive grew up with Rainbow and i cant imagine her looking any different then she did the 80's. I just hope that this new relaunch does rainbow some justice and they dont destroy her like they did with StrawBerry Shortcake.

I though of her being at least 6 or 7 maybe even 8 years old. her chacter is pretty mature for the age she is resembling in the show. I never really though of rainbow being from earth. I thought she came from another planet was just sent from there to help save rainbowland and became its forever protector. I cant imagine rainbow leaving rainbowland. if thats the case then the story seems to be getting a little bit confusing bc with people like murky and lurky and the evil princess i would think that Rainbow was permently staying in rainbowland to keep it safe. also im not sure about the aging thing. i guess this is just hallmarks way of trying to get todays young girls in to rainbow when they relaunch her this fall.
I am happy that there is a story, but I just don't agree with said story. Obviously, the story will work with the newer generation, especially if they've never seen Rainbow Brite before. So for that it's well and good.

But for the rest, well to me it just doesn't fit. RB was certainly not a toddler in the original, and I too pegged her between 6 and 8. Even saying she was six still fits the "several years later" bit. What really doesn't make sense is why she'd leave. Without her to take over, and with Tickled Pink and Moonglo having aged, well, what happened to the the rest of the inhabitants? And why isn't Rainbow Land destroyed if Murky and Lurky and all other space evils were so bent on taking it and the Color Belt? Did Rainbow take the Color Belt with her? And if so, why wasn't there a massive attack on Earth to get it (in a Power Ranger-esque fashion of course). Also, this whole Earth thing makes me think of that Robot Chicken short.

I think in the end there are a lot of questions to tie into the timeline, but it appears there's a break in it, an alternate universe (or AU) function at work here. At least, that's the easy way to explain it. Personally, I won't do fanfic exploring this relaunch or anything to do with it, but that's certainly me, and not every fanfic author.

I agree 100%. I dont really agree with the story eather. Yeah it will prob. work with the younger generation but for us that gew up with Rainbow Brite and helped make her what she is today it just makes us wonder what they are planning on doing with her and how they plan on presenting her to whole new generation.

Now with the story about Rainbow leaving RainbowLand also makes so sence to me as well. Why would she ever leave? Why would they even consider such a story line when fans who grew up loving Rainbow know very well that she would never leave rainbowland and stop making the world colorful and full of life. If she did leave who would run Rainbowland? twink? moonglow? tinkled pink? It makes no sence. not to mention RainbowLand easily fell in to darkness at the hands of the "evil one" in the beginning of Rainbowland and without Rainbow RainbowLand would have never been saved and the color kids would have remained prisoners.

The aging also doesnt make sence eather. in the cartoon Rainbow and the color kids remain ageless and are said to be hundreds of years old but now they are making rainbow only 10 years old. That im not so sure of. I prefer to think of Rainbow as ageless. I cant imagine Rainbow any older then she is supposed to be. It just doesnt add up but then again when ever something is relaunched nothing ever seems to make sence bc toy companies always seem change everything. Lets just hope that this time around they do it right.

It is certainly strange to discover that she was from earth!
And also the fact that she had a family too! How come she never visited them before in the old series? She went many times to earth to see Brian...well I guess is a new story so they probably wanted to come up with some new unusual thing and well they did! Also I would like to know tho, what happened to the other color kids? and MURKY?
This is what normally happens when and old story, movie cartoon gets remade, the story changes and many things do not go along with the old story. They are probably thinking that only the new generation kids will watch and they don't know what happened in the old series so they can come up with anything. Also I think the fact that Disney is also working on it, give a big impact to the changes made. Everything that happens in the cartoon has to have a lead on why it happens nowadays, not like before where they were living to the kids imagination. This explain the fact that she has a family, and a specific age.

The newer generation will probably enjoy the story and get into it. I'm sure those who are advocates of aging Rainbow and the Color Kids will enjoy that aspect of it. I suppose we have to wait and see what other stories they give to the characters and how they plan to flesh out the existing one they've started.

yeah i think the new generation will get in to Rainbow and the storyline that comes with her. I just hope they do it right and dont ruin her like all the other relaunched charcters from the 80's have been over the years for example my little pony, strawberry shortcake, care bears, and ninja turtles. i personaly just dont want to see rainbow be turned in to some brainless bimbo whos only worry is boys and fashion.

I don't think they ruined Ninja Turtles at all, unless maybe you're talking about with Fast Forward and then recently Back to the Sewers. The earlier seasons, 1-5, were amazing and I enjoyed tremendously. I loved the dark and gritty universe, like the comics, that was created for it. And you got to admit, the Turtles are cute. Image

I respect the 80's show and those who love it, but it doesn't appeal to me anymore like it did when I was seven. While it's fun and campy, it just doesn't capture the real spirit of the Turtles for me like the 2003 series has.

Now, the relaunch of MLP and Strawberry (the Strawberry before Playmates) was okay, but Care Bears I cringe at. Care Bears was another favorite of mine growing up and it pains me to see what they've done to them.

I can totally see Wisp being form earth, but the age difference thing IS odd... but then, I always look at remakes as "alternate universes", that way it's okay if they totally twist the universe. Like the new Star Trek movie compared to all OTHER Trek... Go ahead and warp things as long as it's a alternate reality lol. It'll be interesting to see what sort of story they give them, and what really happens to the color kids. I mean they NEED the color kids mroe then they to the "day/night" aspect of the story.

Yeah, this is what I am waiting to see, the storyline and the color kids, I hope they do a good job, it will be a shame to see it transformed in spoiled and brainless characters, not just for us that love the old RB story, but also for new generation kids, that will be influenced by it, and will think that act like that is normal!
