The name change to Twink sound like when Lala Orange's sprite was renamed from O. J. to Mango.

Or was it Saucy?

I wasn't saying it had anything to do with the rainbow. The homosexual meaning most likely did come about during the gay movement of the 70's/80's though, if not later. What it meant previous to that isn't in question. It's what the word has come to mean now in 2009 that matters.
Western society tends to be too careful about many things in my opinion... when you see other countries not taking such care with the exact same things.
Well I personally appreciate it. I wouldn't want my future kids running into porn websites when looking for cartoon information.
And yes, we are agreeing in different angles. To older fans, the name change isn't going to matter because he'll be Twink no matter what. To younger fans, they won't know the difference, especially if they aren't going to release the old show again.
Yup. I do hope they release the old show again though. But with the changes they're making, it might not make sense to. I wouldn't mind a new cartoon! :)

Exactly. It's the same principle. And while I may not like it, I do respect it and the reasoning behind it.

The rainbow flag and its meaning came about in 1978. Other derogatory terms were already in use long before that.

It wasn't really that that I was referring to. I would trust my kids to let me know and not peruse the site had that happened. Even so, there are plenty of parent blockers these days for those children who can't keep away. I was moreso referring to other things, such as limits imposed for drinking/smoking. Kids these days are babied too much and very much spoiled. I see this way too often in many of my students who expect things to be handed to them.

I think I'd go with the route that I respect it, but I don't care for the reasoning behind it. That's just me though.

It makes a bit of sense since I wonder if twink was short for twinkle anyway since the stars. Sort of goes on to make character names different enough to distinguish like as to why it is brite instead of bright. I really don't care too much but just what is with the Nite Sprite change? Does Sprite/Pepsi cola own those rights too >.> I'm thinking they may make Pink in charge of coloring the sky maybe?

For SSC they did have huckleberry *looks at new one and shifts eyes to old one...shudders* They made him not lazy and trendy >.<. What will buddy look like? Maybe more modern soccer outfit? Could do with a re-vamp. What about Red? will he really like magic 0_o? Or Adventureman....or superhero? Maybe prince attire? Or maybe poetic outfit >.>

Kids can't remember such a long name anymore. They've caught 'teh stupidz'. XD Kidding. I'm going to guess that was because he was the only sprite with 'sprite' in his name and they wanted to be consistent in that aspect.

That's a possibility. Perhaps she's in charge of sunrise/sunset? Since both Sunriser and Twilight represent different parts of the day.

Those changes might not be too bad... Buddy's would be interesting to see like that. Red as a poet though... that would be quite entertaining to see!

The idea of the sprites giggling when squeezed creeps me out for some reason...

If it was up to me they'd just squeak like a squeaky toy. After all it wouldn't be too far from the sounds they make in the show!

I don't think of twink as a derogatory term at all. It's just a subset of gay men, much like bears (large, hairy gay men). Sorry, but I do not think gays were classifying themselves as different types in the 70's. They were just happy to know that other gays existed and they could now find them/socialize with them more easily. I could be wrong, but I don't know any older gay men to ask. All of my gay friends are around my age or younger.

That's what it sounds like to me, which I think is super cool. It's about time they gave Pink a real job! lol

That sunrise/sunset idea is a really neat one. She is in charge of pastels, rather than just Pink, so it'd kind of make sense.

Hehe, and seeing Red as a poet would definitely be interesting.
"I hope you know what you're doing, Rainbow."
"You still doubt me, after all this time?"
"I don't doubt," Krys said as he paused at the door. "I worry."

Red as a poet would be adorable!! We need to show kids that non-jock guys are cool too ;)

It may sound weird, but I kinda hope that Twilite is male. It's time to break down the color-gender stereotypes! Image

Huh? Who said anything about banning Twink? The 80's version of the character will always be known as Twink. This is just a new iteration.
My bad, I thought people were talking about the possibility of him actually getting banned from existing/being sold in stores, rather than just him getting his name changed. I must not have read some of the earlier posts, or maybe just skimmed through them....
